Sydney Dive Sites

There are tons of amazing dives sites in Sydney. We’re lucky to have some of the best diving in the world, right in our backyard. Here are some of our favorite shore dives.

The Steps

“The Steps” is an all time favourite Sydney dive site. Located in Kamay Botany Bay National Park in Kurnell, this dive is most known for its entry and exit which include quite a few steps, as you can imagine.

How you approach this dive is very tide dependent. The currents can get strong so be sure to start your dive swimming into the current. But the best time to do this dive is on slack tide (or 30 min before or after high or low tide).

What you can see: Weedy seadragons, blue groupers, bull rays, octopus, cuttlefish, sting rays, moray eels, dwarf pipehorses, nudibranch, wobbegongs, port jackson sharks and more!

Experience Level: Open Water

Max Depth: 18m

Shiprock

Shiprock has some of the most diverse fish life in all of Sydney. It’s the only wall dive in Sydney and its coral life is unparalleled. Because of its location in Port Hacking, you should only dive Shiprock during slack tide (30 min before and after high or low tide) because of the strong currents.

What you can see: Octopus, cuttlefish, sting rays, moray eels, nudibranch, goat fish, wobbegongs and more!

Experience Level: Open Water

Max Depth: 18m

Oak Park

Just off the Cronulla beach, this site is quite different terrain to Shiprock. Oak Park is full of kelp and big boulders. You can always expect to see a school of Old Wives by the rocking horse.

This site is best with a low swell for easier beach entry and exit.

What you can see: Octopus, giant cuttlefish, bull rays, eagle rays, moray eels, port jacksons, a very friendly blue grouper and more!

Experience Level: Open Water

Max Depth: 12m

These are just a few of our favourite, check back later for more!
