Volivoli Beach Resort opened in November 2005 as a dedicated dive resort. The word ‘Volivoli’ means sand in the local dialect, and the beach was named after the sand spit which stretches 80 metres out to sea, providing a wonderful sunbathing spot and marking the most northerly point of Viti Levu. It is one of Fiji’s best kept secrets. The resort also offers a range of activities including snorkeling, kayaking, game fishing and beach volleyball along with some of the best diving in Fiji.
There are a range of room categories to suit your needs from budget dormitory rooms, lodge accommodation with central kitchen and shared bathroom facilities to motel style units and studios.
The Dormitory – Unisex and single sex dormitories sleeping eight people in each dormitory which has ceiling fans, personal storage lockers and two ensuite bathrooms per dorm. Bottom sheet and pillow case are supplied for each bed while top sheet and towels can be hired from reception.
The Lodge – 4 rooms with 1 king bed and 1 single bed, ceiling fan and screened windows with ocean views. The lodge features a central communal kitchen and two shared bathrooms. Lodge rooms can be booked individually or the lodge can also be booked in its entirety.
Vale Balavu – 9 motel style units with twin queen beds, air conditioning, ceiling fans, refrigerator, writing desks, deck chairs, coffee and tea making facilities, Wifi (additional cost) and ocean views.
Studio Vales – 10 stand-alone bure style villas with queen bed, two sofa beds, ensuite bathroom, kitchen, washing machine, air conditioning, ceiling fans and ocean views. Suitable for families with 2 adults and up to 2 children.
Amenities: Sand floor restaurant with the option to dine in the main bure, down by the water’s edge or at outdoor tables overlooking the bay, swimming pool with swim up Pool Bar, Beach Bar, darts, air hockey, large screen tv, complimentary sea kayaks, kava ceremonies, evening cultural entertainment.
Activities : Fully certified PADI and SSI Dive Resort, kayak around the bay to explore the hidden coves and mangrove forests, snorkel amongst the colourful soft coral and fish life, play a game of beach volleyball, go out on a game fishing charter, explore a local traditional village, relax in a hammock or sunbath on the spit.
Scuba Diving - Fiji Volivoli Beach Resort
The reefs around the most northern point of Viti Levu are less visited but offer some of the most fish life and abundance of colour in all of Fiji. There are more than 50 dive sites in the area, many of which are no more than a 20 minute boat ride from Rakiraki resorts. Land based dive operators now make it possible to dive the renowned Bligh Waters and the more remote offshore reefs (45+ minutes away) which were previously only accessible by dive liveaboard.
The reefs in the surrounding Bligh Waters are some of the healthiest in the world and the diving is superb with schools of barracuda, spanish mackerel and trevally frequently sighted roaming the coral heads with resident reef sharks. Black coral trees, multi-coloured hard and soft corals, sea whips and prolific tropical fish make this a photographer’s paradise.
Dives such as “Breathtaker”, a deep reef consisting of three coral heads at 25-30 metres with a drop off to 100 metres where schools of big fish and many sharks are found. The dive will leave you as the name suggests!
There are also two wrecks in the area. The wreck of the “Papuan Explorer” sits in 20 metres of water and is Fiji’s largest and most accessible wreck, teaming with marine life whilst the “Ovalau” offers an exhilarating 55 metre dive into a roll-on roll-off car ferry which sunk on 23rd August 2003.
