Due to the public holiday, we have postponed our October Club Night until next Monday.
October 14th – 7:00pm – Penshurst Hotel
Join us at the Penshurst Hotel next Monday for a night of stories, news and travel updates with St George Underwater Centre.
Diving is dangerous. We know that, so we get training to ensure we have the right skills, we carry alternate air sources, dive with a buddy, and so on to improve safety. For a while now we’ve been testing and selling the Nautilus Lifeline device, though I think it’s time to let everyone know exactly what these little guys can do.
Put simply, the Nautilus Lifeline (NL) is a small, affordable (AU$345 inc GST) marine VHF DSC radio in an underwater housing that is depth rated to 130m. You can use it to talk to a dive boat, your buddy who has another NL, organised shore based support, or any of the emergency maritime services that exist in Australia (e.g. Marine Resuce NSW). In addition to voice communications, the NL is equipped with a GPS and distress beacon system known as Digital Selective Calling (DSC). If activated, a DSC distress call with communicate your real-time coordinates to rescue services or a dive boat up to 12nm. Read More
Following on from the success of the Komodo trip in August on the Palau Siren, we’re doing another liveaboard trip with the Siren Fleet to the Visayan Islands in the Philippines on the Philippine Siren. The Philippine Siren is virtually identical to the Palau Siren and so must be a very comfortable boat. All meals, tea, coffee, soft drinks and beer are included in the prices as are all the dives, including Nitrox (for certified divers) and dive gear, except computers and torches.
The plan is to encounter rare Thresher sharks frequently sighted in this area and the Whale Sharks of Oslob that feed from the hands of local fishermen. The coral reefs in the Visayas feature large schools of fish and macro life abounds providing world class marine life encounters and unique diving opportunities
The trip is for 9 days and 8 nights leaving from Sydney on 4 July 2013 and returning on 12 July. The cost is from $4,101 per diver.
There are a couple of spots left for this trip – which leaves in a month. Call the shop to reserve a place.

What better way to celebrate our Monarch’s birthday than a dive trip away to Forster. OK, so it isn’t really her birthday but that doesn’t mean you can’t come for a dive trip.
Friday 7th to Monday 10th June 2013.
The trip is on the long weekend from Friday 7th June to Monday 10th of June and includes cabin style accommodation for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, including breakfast on Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings.
5 Boat Dives
Includes 2 boat dives on Saturday, 2 boat dives on Sunday and one boat dive on Monday, all with Action Divers. Some of the dives should be with grey nurse sharks.
Families are also welcome with a reduced price for non-divers. Please contact the shop for a special quote.
Spots are filling fast, so don’t delay! Give us a call on 02 9502 2221 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org

With Peter as your Instructor (and there may even be a celebrity Instructor if you’re lucky….) you’ll cover some great training courses while having a great time.
Take a look at the details and see for yourself. Limited spots and a whole adventure ahead of you!
This is a trip you will NOT want to miss!

There is NO CLUB MEETING on tonight.
As discussed at the November club night, many club members are away on holidays and we have decided to wait until February 2013 for our club meeting. At this meeting we will have stories and photos from our Hideaway NYE trip and lots of other information about trips and courses for this year.
